For the eighteenth consecutive year, it has been my privilege to pen a note of holiday greetings and make year-end comments to our clients. That first year, we were a law firm that started with 8 lawyers. The internet and email were novelties that we knew would change us, but certainly, few could see those and the many other changes coming our way. Indeed, no one would have dreamed that fax machines, technological wonders barely ten years old, soon would be relics of a simpler time.
This year again brought many changes to FMG. Leading the way was our opening of new offices in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Tampa. Joining our colleagues in northern and southern California, we now truly have a national reach -- North, South, East, and West. Our newest lawyers in these offices have brought us great energy and excitement. They have been marvelous additions, and we are lucky to have them.
This year also saw many other noteworthy achievements for our firm and our lawyers. We had a tremendous run of successful trial results, several notable appellate decisions, and Phil Savrin and Dana Maine are headed back to the United States Supreme Court in January for FMG's fourth case there. We saw many recognitions of our attorneys ranging from lawyer of the year awards by Best Lawyers to national accolades from Super Lawyers, Chambers, and Benchmark Litigation. It is gratifying to see so many of our attorneys honored for their professional achievements.
In addition, we also saw births, graduations, and weddings as our FMG family continues to grow. For those of us who watch the very same "children" who once ran down the office halls on weekends now bring their children to visit us, it is an amazing sight.
One change you may notice that is a nod to our ever-increasing electronic world is that we have discontinued our hard-copy newsletter. I have been a holdout to send at least one "real letter" a year to clients, but have succumbed to what seems to be the inevitable. So, despite some misgivings, this will be my first holiday message to our clients that won't be sent by proverbial "snail mail," as it was the prior seventeen years. Indeed, times do change.
One thing that is constant, however, is our appreciation for our clients. Any success we have achieved is only because you continue to entrust us with your legal matters. We recognize and value that the relationship between lawyer and client is much more than a typical business arrangement. It is a shared partnership to confront the difficulties and risks of a legal system that can be challenging and sometimes not fair. We strive every day to meet and exceed your expectations and are thankful for the opportunity to represent you.
On behalf of the entire FMG family, and from the Atlanta office, we wish "y'all" a happy holiday season and a safe and prosperous New Year.
