Each year, it is my privilege on behalf of our partners, attorneys, and staff to write you this annual note. It is hard to believe this is the 19th such message since we started the firm with 8 lawyers and 3 staff on April Fools’ Day in 1997.
The past twelve months have seen more growth in our practice and more positive changes for our law firm. FMG was recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle for the sixth consecutive year as one of the fastest growing firms in Atlanta, and this time we moved up to number 2 in the rankings. At year’s end, we welcome the Edgerton & Weaver firm in Los Angeles. They bring us a nationally known financial services practice and now give us over 20 lawyers in California alone. As we noted at our annual Holiday party two weeks ago here in Atlanta, we had more lawyers visiting from out of state than we had total attorneys in the entire firm a mere five years ago.
This year also saw continued recognition and achievements for our lawyers. FMG was rated as a first tier outstanding law firm by Best Lawyers in America. Virtually every partner was recognized by one or more of the four major national attorney recognition groups – Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Chambers, and Benchmark Litigation. Another of our partners was selected as one of Georgia’s Top100 Trial Attorneys by the American Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Our partner Dana Maine and her team scored three major jury trial successes in an amazing three-month run. Scott Hofer and our Philadelphia/New Jersey construction group were recognized as outstanding associates by the Associated Building Contractors (ABC) of New Jersey, and Neil Wilcove was selected as general counsel for the Georgia Chapter of the ABC.
2016 also saw many births, marriages, graduations, and the continued cycles of life of our valued employees, clients, and business partners. We seem to celebrate daily momentous personal occasions and the joy they bring to our FMG family. We would be remiss, however, not to remember the passing of our treasured friend and colleague Bob Oliver. Finally, I want to repeat a message I share each year. In a world of change, one constant is our appreciation for our clients. Any success we have achieved is only because you continue to entrust us with your legal matters. We recognize and value that the relationship between lawyer and client is much more than a typical business arrangement. It is a partnership to confront the difficulties and risks of a legal system that can be challenging and often is not fair. We strive every day to meet and exceed your expectations, and we are thankful for the opportunity to represent you.
On behalf of the entire FMG family from all corners of our great nation, we wish you a happy holiday season and a safe and prosperous New Year.
