Matt Weiss is an associate in the firm’s Commercial and Complex Litigation, Government Law, Professional Liability and Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith National Practice Sections.

His experience with government law includes zoning appeals and other land use matters, government contracts, bid protests, election contests and qualification challenges, state attorney general proceedings, and other litigation involving cities, counties, and government agencies.  Mr. Weiss has previously represented cities and counties in litigation concerning torts, tax assessments, and contract issues.  Mr. Weiss has also represented vendors in bid protests at various levels of administrative and judicial proceedings.  He has counseled businesses on ethics, compliance, and procurement issues with the City of Atlanta and on pending legislation in the Georgia General Assembly.  Mr. Weiss also has experience with internal investigations on federal regulatory compliance issues.   

Mr. Weiss has significant experience with commercial litigation, including the defense of fiduciaries and trustees as well as bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and insolvency-related litigation.  Mr. Weiss has represented debtors and creditors in foreclosure confirmation proceedings, suits on notes and guarantees, and equitable receivership proceedings in state and federal court.  Mr. Weiss also has experience representing secured and unsecured creditors and other parties-in-interest in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings. 

Mr. Weiss also has experience with insurance-related litigation, defending attorneys in legal malpractice proceedings and handling insurance coverage disputes. 

Mr. Weiss served as a law clerk for The Honorable Marvin H. Shoob, United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division.

Mr. Weiss is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as the Executive Notes Editor of the Georgia Law Review.
