In his commercial law practice, Matt routinely represents clients in complex commercial matters, anti-trust litigation, class action lawsuits, multi-district lawsuits, business disputes, contract disputes, and consumer protection matters. He has handled cases under the Lanham Act, False Claims Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, Truth in Lending Act, and Fair Billing Practices Act. Matt has litigated high-exposure cases including matters involving class actions, antitrust, multi-district litigation.
In his data security and privacy practice, Matt advises and represents businesses in a variety of matters relating to data security and privacy laws. He has experience helping businesses respond to data breaches and comply with notification laws and regulations involving inadvertent disclosure of information. Additionally, he has prepared comprehensive security and privacy policies and procedures to comply with regulations. He also represents businesses in litigation matters related to data security and privacy, including class actions and multi-district litigation. He has obtained the CIPP/US credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Matt’s construction law practice includes the representation of design professionals, contractors, owners, and other clients in all types of construction disputes, including breach of contract and design defects. He has represented clients in constructions claims in litigation, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
Matt has been selected three times as a Georgia Super Lawyers "Rising Star" as published by Atlanta Magazine. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in America 2024 for Commercial Litigation and Litigation – Construction. He is a frequent author and speaker on privacy issues, class actions, and consumer protection matters, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. He is a member of Leadership Cobb Class of 2013-2014. He is a former President and member of the Board of Directors of Bike Roswell!, a nonprofit cycling advocacy organization based in Roswell, Georgia. He is a member of the Education Committee of the Southeastern Chapter of the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture. He is also a member of the Endangered Properties Committee of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and a member of the Middleton Place Foundation.
Matt obtained his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his law degree from Emory University School of Law. He is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional and is trained in the benefits of sustainable construction.
