Paul Derrick is a partner in the firm's Raleigh office, where his practice is concentrated in the areas of labor and employment law, public safety/civil rights, government law, commercial litigation/directors & officers, and general liability.  He has successfully tried over 35 court cases, arbitrations, and administrative matters, as well as dozens of appellate arguments and briefings.

For nearly three decades, Mr. Derrick has effectively defended employers throughout the country against individual, class, and collective actions raising a range of workplace and constitutional law issues, particularly in the agribusiness, retail, hospitality, and manufacturing industries.  He regularly provides preventive and strategic advice and litigates cases involving breaches of restrictive covenants, unfair competition and theft of trade secrets, discrimination of all types, retaliation, union organizing matters, wage and hour violations, employment-related torts, and more.  He also has conducted hundreds of training programs on union avoidance and most aspects of employment law.

Mr. Derrick was a law enforcement officer for six years prior to attending law school and has substantial litigation, trial, and appellate experience defending law enforcement officers and agencies, volunteer fire departments, and a variety of governmental entities throughout North Carolina and South Carolina in Section 1983 litigation.

Mr. Derrick has been widely published and quoted by national and local media on various legal topics.  He has been selected in multiple years as one of The Best Lawyers in America and a North Carolina Super Lawyer, and he was named a Fellow in Litigation Counsel of America.
