Bert Reeves is Of-Counsel to FMG in Atlanta. Mr. Reeves is a highly experienced attorney who handles complex litigation throughout the State of Georgia. He also is a member of the House of Representatives of the Georgia General Assembly. He serves a Floor Leader for Governor Brian Kemp in the House.  

Mr. Reeves focuses his practice on representing private companies in business litigation and regulatory and compliance matters. He also has extensive experience in representing local governmental entities. As a former prosecutor, he often is called upon to conduct sensitive high level investigations for clients as well as to defend clients in white collar criminal matters, compliance and corporate governance issues.

He began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Cobb County before entering private practice. In 2014, he was elected to State Representative in the House of Representatives for Georgia’s 34th District, which includes parts of Cobb County. In the House of Representatives, Mr. Reeves serves as the Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, the Vice Chairman of Higher Education, and serves on the Judiciary Committee, the Ways & Means Committee, the Insurance Committee, and the Appropriations Committee. In addition to his Floor Leader responsibilities, he serves on the Juvenile State Advisory Group, and as a Georgia Supreme Court appointee to the Georgia Commission on Court Interpreters.  During his time as a legislator, Bert has led Georgia on adoption law and foster care reform, as well as efforts to strengthen state law with anti-street gang enforcement and anti-human trafficking efforts.  

Mr. Reeves earned his Juris DoctorateCum Laude, from Stetson University in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Management with Dean’s List honors. While at Georgia Tech, Bert served as the school yellow jacket mascot, “Buzz” from 1997 to 2000, where he was named an All-American Mascot in 1997.

An active member of his community, Mr. Reeves is a member of the Marietta Rotary Club, and currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, and the Board of Directors for the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Regional Board, and the Davis Direction Foundation. He is a graduate of Leadership Cobb. He has served on the Board of Directors for The Strand Theatre, the Marietta Visitors Bureau, the Leadership Cobb Alumni Association Executive Board, the Cobb County Bar Association Board of Trustees, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta Community Advisory Board, and served as Chaplain for the Cobb Bar Association. Bert chaired the leadership program, Cobb Youth Leadership, for 2012-2013.

Mr. Reeves has been recognized by Georgia Trend Magazine in 2015 and named as “40 Under 40” for the State of Georgia. He also has received an award of recognition from the Georgia Association of the Chiefs of Police for his work on law enforcement legislation at the Capitol. In 2016 the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia and the Georgia Gang Investigators Association recognized him for his passage of anti-street gang legislation through the General Assembly. He has been named “Legislator of the Year” by the Georgia Council of Probate Judges, The Cobb County Republican Women’s Club, and the Georgia Counsel of Adoption Lawyers, and has received the “Friends of Children” award from the Georgia Professional Human Services Association, and the “Distinguished Service Award” at the Georgia Conference on Children and Families.  In 2012 Bert was named the “Ross Adams Young Lawyer of the Year” by the Cobb County Bar Association.

Bert and his wife Amy have two boys, Charlie and Albert.  In his spare time, Bert is the lead singer and guitarist for the band “Attractive Nuisance”. He also has acted on stage, performing lead roles in “The Odd Couple” and “The Sunshine Boys”. An avid mountaineer and outdoorsman, Bert has summited many tall mountains, including Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania, Africa), Mt. Rainier (WA), Mt. Whitney (CA), Grand Teton (WY), Mt. Elbert (CO), Mt. Hood (OR), Humphreys Peak (AZ), and Wheeler Peak (NM).

Mr. Reeves serves in his capacity as Of-Counsel to FMG while maintaining his private law practice with Bert Reeves, PC. and practicing with the firm of Smith, Schnatmeier, Dettmering, & Reeves, LLP in Marietta.
