Jeffrey Hord is Of Counsel in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Atlanta office. An experienced trial lawyer, Mr. Hord has successfully represented companies and executives in complex litigation and agency proceedings in a wide variety of cases with a focus on employment and commercial matters.

Mr. Hord defends employers against claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FLSA, ADA, NLRA, FMLA, and ADEA (as well as analogous state & local statutes). He also regularly advises and counsels clients on all types of employment issues, including worker classification, DOL, OFCCP, and other statutory compliance requirements.  

Mr. Hord has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation including defending and prosecuting an array of business matters. Mr. Hord has represented public and private companies, start-ups and closely held entities and non-profits in single and multi-party FDCPA, TPCA, and FCA cases as well as ERISA and RICO disputes. He also regularly represents parties in claims concerning fiduciary duty, breach of duty, errors and omissions, breach of contract, fraud, civil conspiracy, conversion, and many other commercial issues. His experience also extends to defending health care providers as well as health care product and device manufacturers against personal injury claims in the life sciences.

Mr. Hord’s performance as a litigator has garnered significant recognition within the legal community. He holds an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, has been named to nine “Rising Star” lists (across four states) by Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers since 2014, and is a three-time “Legal Elite” selectee by Virginia Business magazine. From 2009 to 2012, he served as an adjunct professor at the American University Washington College of Law, instructing some of the nation’s top law students on all aspects of trial practice. He has also been asked to instruct other attorneys on various business litigation topics at popular continuing legal education seminars across the mid-Atlantic area.

Mr. Hord brings a zealous, competitive approach to each case that is reflected in his preparation and attention to detail. He prides himself on his communication skills and his accessibility to clients. He consistently dedicates the time that is necessary to develop a comprehensive understanding of each client’s unique circumstances, and works tirelessly to ensure that their assets and best interests are protected.

A native of the D.C. area, Mr. Hord received his Bachelor’s Degree from the College of William & Mary in 2003 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2007. In the summer of 2005, he studied international law at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. His interests include playing golf, cheering on his hometown Redskins and Orioles, and exploring Atlanta’s numerous parks and trails with his beloved Australian Shepherd.
