William Linkous is a Partner in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Atlanta office. He brings extensive knowledge of government law to FMG, as he is one of the most experienced local government attorneys in Georgia. He has previously been appointed and served as both DeKalb County Attorney and Gwinnett County Attorney, and in both positions he was responsible for all legal affairs for a large metropolitan county, including supervision of litigation, non-litigation, and outside counsel for each county. Mr. Linkous also served in a similar position as City Attorney for the City of Stockbridge from 2012 to 2013. Mr. Linkous’ wide experience also includes service as Chief Assistant County Attorney in charge of litigation for DeKalb County and as Assistant County Attorney for Douglas County. Mr. Linkous has done extensive legal work for nearly all of the metro area counties and several area cities.

Mr. Linkous is also experienced in education law, as he also served as Staff Attorney for Atlanta Public Schools, where he handled labor and employment matters, including litigation and proactive representation. He has lectured and written on a wide variety of governmental topics, including local government litigation, Section 1983 lawsuits, and representing county officials.

Mr. Linkous received his undergraduate degree from Roanoke College (B.A. Religion and Philosophy) and his law degree from Georgia State University Law School (J.D.) where he was a member of the Law Review. He is admitted to practice in Georgia and Colorado.

He served as the Chairman of the Labor and Employment Section of the Georgia Bar from 2007-2008, and was a member of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Model Ethics Ordinance Committee in 2008.
