Overview

Kevin Norchi is a Partner and Office Chair of Freeman Mathis & Gary's Cleveland office and Co-Chair of the firm's Healthcare national practice section. Mr. Norchi began the practice of law with civil trial experience in Cleveland for two years and then in Cincinnati for six years defending physicians and hospitals in medical negligence lawsuits and pharmaceutical companies in drug product liability matters. Returning to Cleveland in 1994, his healthcare practice broadened to related subjects of peer review, physician privileges and credentialing, and Nursing Home/LTC/ Hospice defense. Mr. Norchi developed a successful practice in Higher Education representing local colleges and universities in various matters including premises liability, and faculty and student disputes. In addition, Mr. Norchi has represented clients in legal malpractice, business litigation and contract disputes, various general insurance defense matters such as restaurant and food adulteration, and employment, and professional negligence.

Mr. Norchi has tried cases throughout the Midwest involving catastrophic injuries, including wrongful death and brain injury cases arising in the health care setting, products liability and medical equipment or devices. He handles high-exposure vehicle and construction site accidents including claims involving construction equipment, cranes, scaffolding accidents and scaffold failures. He represents professional liability matters, including defense of lawyers, mental health professionals, nursing homes and health care providers.  His clients include manufacturers, tech and biotech companies, public and private transportation companies, construction contractors or subcontractors and schools and non-profit entities.

  • Mid-Ohio Emergency Physicians, LLP v. Trinity Hospital Twin City, et al., Tuscarawas C.P. No. 2013 CV 12 0868: Granted summary judgment on post-petition bankruptcy contract litigation. Argued before Court of Appeals (October 2015, reversed February 2016).

  • Rush v. Samaritan Emergency Physician, LLP et al., Ashland C.P. No. 14 CIV 007: Defense verdict for two emergency medicine physicians and a physician’s assistant in a wrongful death claim related to EKG interpretation.

  • Groves v. Ihsanullah et al., Cuyahoga C.P. No. CV 14 820538: Defense verdict on behalf of emergency medicine physician in wrongful death claim arising from allegations of methadone overdose.

  • Wallace v. Case Western Reserve University et al., Cuyahoga C.P. No. 06 CV 591169: Represented CWRU in premises liability, survivorship, and wrongful death actions arising from a college campus shooting and hostage situation. Granted summary judgment, which was affirmed on appeal. Wallace v. Halder, 2009-Ohio-3738.

  • Fletcher v. Univ. Hosps. of Cleveland, 120 Ohio St.3d 167, 2008-Ohio-5379: Argued before the Ohio Supreme Court on behalf of University Hospitals of Cleveland regarding the Affidavit of Merit requirement to support professional negligence claims against physicians and other healthcare professionals.
