Robert W. Hojnoski is a Partner and Office Chair of Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Cincinnati office. Bob is also Vice-Chair of the firm's Midwest Tort practice team. Bob is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Kentucky within the geographic region known as the “tristate” area where Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana come together. Bob is also admitted to practice in all federal courts within Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
Bob is a seasoned and experienced litigator, trial lawyer and appellate advocate with over 25 years of experience defending a wide variety of tort, contract, and commercial disputes. Bob has extensive experience with all facets of civil litigation, including pre-suit investigation, administrative proceedings, discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, arbitrations, trials and appeals. As lead counsel, Bob has resolved to conclusion well over 1,000 matters, often involving multi-party actions, complex issues and catastrophic damages. In addition to having defended countless tort/negligence cases involving general claims for personal injury, wrongful death, property damage and other economic losses, Bob has a long and successful track record defending more specialized, complex and sophisticated claims brought against various product manufacturers, retail and property owners, non-profits, transportation companies, employers, healthcare providers, accountants, lawyers, architects, engineers, contractors, directors and officers, real estate and various other professionals. Over the course of his career, in addition to representing countless individuals and entrepreneurs, Bob has represented companies of all sizes, to include some of the largest companies in the world.
Not only is Bob a skilled and creative negotiator having successfully mediated and resolved hundreds of cases, he is a talented brief writer with a long track record of winning cases through dispositive motion. Perhaps most importantly and significantly, Bob is a seasoned and talented first chair trial lawyer. After participating on his law school’s national trial advocacy team, Bob had the opportunity to begin trying cases in his first few years of practice. During that time, Bob also served as a volunteer adjunct professor / coach of the regional and national trial advocacy teams for a local law school, teaching and training law students the nuances and skills needed to successfully present cases to juries. Since then, Bob has tried numerous cases to final verdict including several cases involving claims for wrongful death and other catastrophic damages. Bob has an accomplished trial “win rate.” Bob’s reputation as a lawyer who will take a case to trial often serves to the benefit of his client in resolving a case on the client’s preferred terms and conditions. Bob has tried cases to juries in state and federal courts in both Ohio and Kentucky.
In addition to his years of trial experience, Bob is also a seasoned appellate lawyer. Bob has served as lead appellate counsel in countless meritorious matters decided by various state appellate courts. Bob has had the unique opportunity to brief and argue multiple matters before the Ohio Supreme Court as well numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Unlike many civil litigators, Bob has significant experience practicing in federal court.
Outside of the courtroom, Bob has always been involved in various professional organizations and has received various honors and recognitions over his career. He has been recognized for many years as a leading lawyer by Cincy magazine and has been regularly recognized in The Best Layers in America® for product liability defense. Bob also has years of experience mentoring young lawyers and serving in various leadership roles related to firm management and various practice groups.
