Overview

Sean Andrés Rapela is an Associate in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Boston office. Mr. Rapela practices in the Labor and Employment, Professional Liability, and Data Security, Privacy & Technology Groups.

Mr. Rapela engages in all aspects of employment and labor litigation representing employers, as well as their management and employees, in employment-related lawsuits including: claims of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation; wage and hour issues; wrongful termination litigation; invasion of privacy; trade secret misappropriation; and risk management counseling. Mr. Rapela also provides preventative counseling to employers regarding all employment practices, including preparing employment agreements, analyzing restrictive covenants, evaluating termination decisions, and auditing employee handbooks.

Mr. Rapela has successfully defended employers in cases before both state and federal courts and administrative agencies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights (RICHR), and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Mr. Rapela also possesses extensive experience representing accountants, architects, attorneys, and other professionals in complex commercial litigation in both federal and state courts, including business law, construction and design law, class actions, and data privacy and cyber claims. 

Mr. Rapela is a graduate of Wake Forest University (B.A.). He received his law degree from Suffolk University Law School (J.D.), where he was a member of The Journal of High Technology Law and published journal note The Ugly Truth About Cyber Insurance & Governmental Data Breaches, 21 J. HIGH TECH. L. 242 (2021). Mr. Rapela also volunteered as a Law Admissions Ambassador and was a member of the Latin American Law Student Association. Suffolk University Law School awarded him the Trustee Academic Scholarship each year of attendance.
