Susan Friedman is a formidable force in the insurance arena bringing her 20+ years of industry experience and relationships to Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP as a Partner and Client Relations Manager. Prior to joining FMG, Susan’s illustrious career included roles of Group Coverage Counsel, SVP & Claims Advocate, Product Leader, Claims Counsel, Underwriting Counsel, Of Counsel, VP & National Claims Team Leader, SVP Business Development, and litigator, among others. She has been affiliated with Marsh & McLennan, Arthur J. Gallagher, AIG, Argo, NFP (an AON company), and Wilson Elser.
Susan specializes in all financial lines/management liability and cyber insurance. She has a background in property and casualty lines as well. Her industry expertise runs the gamut from public, private and non-profit organizations, mid-size to Fortune 1000, in a plethora of industry sectors. Susan has also frequently been called upon to consult with General Counsels and has privately coached C-Suite and industry professionals in Directors & Officers Liability and Cyber/Technology/Media Liability. She has earned a reputation as a zealous advocate, creative thinker, and avid networker, who takes a highly collaborative Clients First approach which has yielded excellent financial results and relationships for clients.
Susan is nationally recognized as a prolific writer and frequent public speaker on a vast array of topics germane to the insurance industry. She has been a contributing writer to The New York Law Journal, National Law Journal, Law360 and on the editorial board of The International In-House Counsel Journal. She has been quoted in Forbes and Business Insurance among other publications. Notably, the 2024 HBO Documentary “Movie Pass/Movie Crash” is based upon a collection of claims (securities class actions, shareholder derivative lawsuits, arbitration demands, SEC and DOJ investigations, stock delisting, and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy) in which Susan was intimately involved along with certain co-creators of Netflix.
Susan prides herself on her ability to bring people together to achieve common goals. She has created a number of industry networks and states that her mantra is “I know everyone – I just haven’t met them all yet.” She stresses the power of the network in all that she does.
Her academic credentials include a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from New York Law School and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University. She is admitted to practice law in New York State and is a licensed Property & Casualty Broker.
