Xander Melnick is a trial and appellate Associate at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP’s Atlanta office, and practices on the Government Law and Tort & Catastrophic Loss national practice sections. Mr. Melnick regularly represents local governments and their officers in federal civil rights litigation and virtually every type of related state-law claim. He also represents privately held businesses and publicly traded companies in cases involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death in addition to advising on commercial liability matters. He is routinely asked to review contracts and policies for various nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout Georgia.
Before joining FMG, Mr. Melnick worked as a law clerk at a boutique personal injury firm handling a variety of tort claims including premises liability, negligent security and products liability. In less than two years, he helped recover well over seven figures for his clients.
Mr. Melnick received his J.D., with honors, from Emory University School of Law and his B.A., with honors, in political science from Mercer University. While at Emory Law, he worked for the U.S. Dept. of Defense’s Military Commissions Defense Organization where he obtained Top Secret (TS/SCI) Security Clearance representing detainees at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. He was also elected President of Emory Law’s Corporate and Business Law Society, the largest law student organization, and elected as a 3L Representative for the Student Bar Association. In addition, he served as a research assistant for Dean Richard Freer and interned for the Honorable Christopher J. McFadden in the Georgia Court of Appeals.
Mr. Melnick is an active member in the Cobb and Clayton County Chambers of Commerce and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Georgia Bar YLD Business Law Subcommittee.
