FMG Announces Addition of New Partner Mike Athans

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP, is pleased to announce that Mike Athans has joined the firm as a Partner in the professional liability and insurance coverage section in the Atlanta office.  He will also practice in the firm’s commercial and complex litigation practice group.

Mr. Athans’ focus is on the representation of domestic and international insurance carriers in coverage disputes and defense of bad faith claims. He also brings extensive trial and litigation experience representing corporations and manufacturers in complex commercial disputes. He has published numerous articles on product issues, insurance coverage and construction defects. 

Mr. Athans also has been an adjunct professor of law at Emory University Law School, teaching negotiations and alternative dispute resolution to third-year students and trial techniques to second-year students.  In addition, he is a certified mediator and arbitrator.

Mr. Athans joins Freeman Mathis & Gary from Gilson Athans.  He received his law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and clerked for Judge Bailey Brown on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
