Overview

Ashley Hetzel is an Associate in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Columbus office. Ms. Hetzel’s practice has focused on the representation of Ohio local governments including the provision of water, sanitary sewer, and storm water services, economic development, and Sunshine Law compliance. She also has experience in real estate transactions, easement acquisition, eminent domain, and drafting legislation.  She has advised local governments (specifically cities, villages, townships, and counties) and private individuals relative to particular provisions of the Ohio Revised Code, the Ohio Constitution and local ordinances relative to nuisance claims involving businesses and individuals involved in the hotel, travel and tourism industry, short term rentals, and transient housing.  She has experience in drafting and interpreting nuisance ordinances and enforcing and prosecuting nuisance abated properties during her experience as an Assistant Law Director for a city located in northeast Ohio.  Ms. Hetzel has also represented Ohio political subdivision in cases involving civil rights and government liability.

Ms. Hetzel’s employment practice includes wrongful discharge, race, gender, age, sexual orientation and disability discrimination, as well as racial and sexual harassment.  She has represented public and private employers in a variety of claims, including those arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the FMLA, as well as the defense of both public and private employers in the defense of claims of alleged sex (quid pro quo) discrimination.
