James Mathew is an Associate at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP and is located in the Philadelphia office. He is a member of the Firm’s Construction & Design Law and Tort & Catastrophic Loss practice sections and is actively involved in the Mass Tort Litigation interdisciplinary team. James focuses his practice on defending claims in the areas of tort and catastrophic loss and construction defects in Pennsylvania.
James also handles the defense of complex, multiparty litigation, class actions and federal court Multi-District Litigation (MDL). He is part of the firm’s Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Litigation Team. James has authored many publications relating to PFAS and class actions. He is defending our client in the MDL alleging environmental and personal injury claims due to PFAS, arising from fire-fighting equipment and fire-suppressing foam pending in Charleston, South Carolina federal court, known as the Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) MDL. James brings a strategic and trial-tested approach to litigation, shaped by his prior career as a criminal defense attorney. Having tried hundreds of trials and hearings, James leverages his courtroom experience to diligently achieve the best outcome for each of his clients.
James is a graduate of Temple University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and received his Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law. While in law school, he was a member of the nationally recognized Trial Team.
