Mass Tort Litigation

Overview

James M. Mathew is an Associate at Freeman, Mathis, & Gary’s Philadelphia office.  James’s practice focuses on the defense of claims in the areas of tort and catastrophic loss, and construction defects in Pennsylvania. In both of these fields, James focuses on litigation and being an advocate for each of his clients.

James also handles the defense of complex, multiparty litigation, class actions, and federal court Multi-District Litigation (MDL). He is part of the firm’s Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Litigation Team. He is defending our client in the MDL alleging environmental and personal injury claims due to PFAS, arising from fire-fighting equipment and fire-suppressing foam pending in Charleston, South Carolina federal court, known as the Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) MDL.

Prior to joining Freeman, Mathis, & Gary, James had a career as a criminal defense attorney. As a result of his time in criminal defense, he has tried hundreds of trials and hearings. During that time, he has honed his skills as a litigator. He now uses those skills to diligently achieve the best outcome for each of his clients.

He is a graduate of the Temple University (B.A.).  He received his law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law (J.D.), where he was a member of the nationally recognized Trial Team. In his free time, he enjoys exploring local bars and restaurants, cooking, and playing basketball.
