Maggie Kartsonis is an Associate at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP in the New York City and Newark offices. She is a member of the Firm’s Labor & Employment, Tort & Catastrophic Loss and Construction & Design Law practice sections. Her practice includes a wide range of complex litigation matters, with a focus on labor, employment, tort and construction claims.
Ms. Kartsonis regularly represents employers in court, quasi-judicial forums (such as the AAA) and administrative agencies (such as the EEOC) in connection with labor and employment claims, including discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, breach of contract and whistleblower claims. She also counsels human resource and e-suite professionals regarding federal and state statutes (such as Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, National Labor Relations Act and Paid Family Leave Act) and provides guidance to employers in their personnel decisions and employment contracts, policies and procedures. She regularly defends business entities in the construction, aviation and transportation industries, and represents owners, general contractors and sub contactors in tort and construction defect actions in both New York and New Jersey.
Prior to joining FMG, Ms. Kartsonis was a clinical intern for the United States Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of New York, and a judicial intern of the New York State Supreme Court for Hon. Richard Montelione, J.S.C.
Ms. Kartsonis earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she served on the Moot Court Honor Society and was a member of the Trial Division National Team. Upon graduating she was awarded the Judge Doris A. Thompson & Judge Edward Thompson Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.
