Overview

Sean Gibbons is a Partner at Freeman Mathis & Gary LLP's Los Angeles office and specializes in labor and employment law.  He advises public and private sector employers throughout California on labor and employment policies and practices. He also represents employers in labor and employment litigation, arbitration, and collective bargaining negotiations.

Sean advises clients on oversight and risk-management functions for all Human Resources and employee relations issues, including but not limited to employee recruitment and retention, evaluation, discipline, compensation, and separation.  He provides comprehensive employment counseling in public- and private-sector contexts with regard to represented and unrepresented employees, including drafting, presenting, and implementing comprehensive personnel policies and training management in the administration of those policies.  He drafts and presents sexual harassment prevention training as required by California law, and monitors legal trends and significant high-court decisions to ensure that his clients comply with all appropriate laws and regulations.  Sean also represents private, municipal, and quasi-municipal entities in State and Federal courts in all labor and employment litigation, from pleadings, discovery and depositions to motion practice and trial.  He also represent clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Public Employee Relations Board, and National Labor Relations Board.  He has also represented his clients in arbitration and mediation proceedings, and has successfully negotiated favorable results directly with opposing counsel when necessary.

Sean has served as lead negotiator for public and private entities in collective bargaining.  Upon ratification of labor agreements, he provides advice and counseling on their administration and enforcement, and engages with collective bargaining agents and employee representatives in order to successfully resolve grievance issues.

Sean graduated from Boston College Law School in 2008.  An avid triathlete and two-time Ironman, he has been honored as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” five times in his nine years of practice.
