The National Practitioner Data Bank published a state-by-state chart of medical malpractice adverse actions and payments over a 10 year period from 2003-2013. In Georgia, for instance, there were 3,392 medical malpractice payments out of approximately 4,458 adverse actions in that 10 year period, which is approximately a 76% medical malpractice payment rate per adverse action. Based on population, the number of medical malpractice payments represents about 1 payment for every 2,946 Georgians, whereas the national average is approximately 1 payment for every 1,994 Americans. The chart is a good resource for evaluating the frequency of adverse actions and medical malpractice payments in each state.
